Places I'd like to see before I'm 40...

I love travel, but haven't had the luxury of going to far off places.  I've never been to Europe.  The farthest west has been Denver, Colorado.  The farthest south has been Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands.  The farthest north has been Pittsburgh. Pennsylvania.  So...I have quite a list of places I'd like to see, before I'm 40...and some before I have kids.

1.   St. John, United StatesVirgin Islands

I've heard this place is the most beautiful little carribbean island.  It is the smallest of the USVI....and is within a boat ride from St Thomas and Jost Van Dyke. Kenny Chesney even owns a home on it. His song "Old Blue Chair" sparked my interest in this little island, only because of the line " From that chair I've caught, a few fish and some rays, and I've watched boats sail ,in and out of Cinnamon Bay."  I googled Cinnamon Bay...and completely fell in love with St. John.  Cinnamon Bay is the longest beach on St John.  I can just imagine sitting on the beach watching the sunset...and those boats sail in and out.

This is where I'd LOVE to honeymoon.

2. Black Forest region of Germany.

This is where my ancestors are from.  We've traced our family back to 1684 in Monchweiler, Wurttemberg, Germany, a town in the Schwarzwald region ( or Black Forest region).  On March 29,1738, Johannes and Elisabetha came to America.  Anyways, I've always wanted to go back to where my last name originated.  It is also the region where the cuckoo clock originated from!

3.  Machu Picchu, Peru

My mom's best friend hiked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.  Her photos were amazing.  Every time I see a photo of Machu Picchu, I get chills! It's gorgeous, and I also think that the thrill of the hike and the view would be indescribable!

4.   Ireland
I love little irish pubs, and fattening irish food, and reubens.  I also love Celtic music and folklore...Thank you high school chorus!!  The movie Tristan and Isolde was also another reason why I want to travel to Ireland one day.  Maybe it's because I love the color green.  Maybe its why  I chose the boy with the strawberry blonde hair and the red beard.  I'm thinkin' I'm going to have little redhead babies one day.

Aww!

5. Boston, Massachuesetts
History.  Period.

6. Assateague Island and Chincoteague Island, Virginia
To see the wild ponies and horses.  Remember the book, Misty of Chincoteague, about the children that tamed a wild ponie.  Gah..I loved that book.

7. Tanzania, Africa
Thank you Lion King.  I think going on a safari would be the coolest experience ever.  Hemingway also had a hand in my little love for this country.  I think it was 11th grade when we had to read Hemingway pieces, and The Snows of Kilimanjaro was one of my favorites.  Beautiful story.  Beautiful country.

Where do you wish to go?

  1. Great ideas for places to visit and I loved your rationale behind each choice :-)

I have terrible anxiety about flying in planes (horrible, horrible anxiety that needs tons of Xanax) but if I can conquer the anxiety again to fly I'd like to go to...

The Southwest! (New Mexico in particular!) I'd also love to go to Utah, Colorado, states in that general vicinity.

Germany/Austria...because I've wanted to go there since I was a child.

    Dang I wish I were a better traveller. :-/
