Birthday Week!

My birthday weekend was wonderful! On Thursday night,a few friends and I went to a fun little sushi bar and grill in downtown Columbia.  It was yummy!  It was 50cent sushi night too! My friend Amanda surprised me with a cake decorated with my monogram and 'sparkle trick candles'.  The WHOLE restuarant watched and laughed because I could NOT get a few candles to go out! Too much fun!  Then we went a rooftop bar on the 17th story of the Sheraton Hotel .  It was SO gorgeous!  I wish Dave could have been there, but his twin brother's girlfriend, Chelsea ( who is also my good friend) came to help me celebrate!

Beautiful friends!!

SC State House from the top of the hotel.

Looove these girls! The one in the pink is my roommate Lizzy!

On Friday, Dave and Dan arrived!  We went out to eat and then we came back to the apartment and relaxed and prepared ourselves for a crazy fun long day ahead of us!

Carolina Cup, Saturday, March 27, 2010. Camden, South Carolina

The Cup was TOO much fun!  We were on the road towards Camden at 8:30am and made it there by 9:15.  It was chilly when we got there so we sat in the car and waited for a few of our friend to get there.  It was fun too watching charter bus after charter bus unload bookoos of  already drunk college students.   Our friends finally came and we headed into the gates!!  The weather was PERFECT!!!  It ended up warming up and the day was perfect, even though I couldn't find several of my friends that I promised I would try to find.  There were over 65,000 people there.  Too much cherry vodka and sprite might have had something to do with that. Hmmm.

I'm so bummed I never made it to the Lilly booth!

Me and my handsome boyfriend!

Me and one of Dave's good friends from high school.

The whole gang.

The 1st race of the day!

Go Horsey Go!

The winner of the 1st race!

Me and Chelsea ( Dave's brothers girlfriend )

Oh what a day it was.

It's my birthday...and I got an award! Whoo!

On Thursday March 24, 1988, at 10:20am...22 years ago....I came into this world.  Awwww.

I was rotten.

Little Me on Easter

Well... today has been a great day so far! I got to sleep in a little (compared to waking up at 4:45am for the past 2 days for clinical).

My mom teaches special education at an elementary school and she called and put me on speaker phone so her kids could sing 'Happy Birthday' to me!  Tooo sweet.  Especially from her kids.

It's GORGEOUS here in SC today.  I'm actually planning on lying out in the sun by the apartment pool later...and I'm thinking about skipping class tonight!

And

Dave sent me flowers!

AND

I was tagged in a blogger award today from SJT at The List

Preppy Mafia? Like SJT...Preppy Mafia is not so much me. I ALSO think they and other stores like them can be a rip off. Don't get me wrong, their stuff is PRESH, but sometimes I'd like to spend my moolah on thing that I won't cry over when I accidently ruin it.  I'm a pro at ruining brand new expensive things.  I dropped my new Blackberry Storm on the screen side after 3 days of having it.  And I'm great at somehow managing to get mud/dirt in the strangest of places.

Anyways,  here are the questions.

1) Who is your style icon?
Hmm...I wouldn't say I have a style icon, but if I had to pick someone it would be  Jennifer Anniston.  She always looks classy, comfortable and cute at the same time. She dresses well, but always looks like a regular person with a regular life.  I like the classy, simple, sweet and southern style.

2) What is your favorite socialite lit book?
Hmm...LOVE LOVE LOVE Gossip Girl books and Bergdorf Blondes by Plum Sykes

3) Favorite party theme?
Definitely 80's themed.  You can never go wrong with poofy crimpy hair, spandex and neon colors.

4) Favorite Halloween costume?
Awwww.

No...um...I would have to say the year I dressed as a dalmation. Me and my brother matched.  My parents have a picture of ME cocking my leg up on my brother.  I couldn't have been older than 7.

5) Extravagance you can't live without?
Bare Minerals Make up.   Not really an extravagance...but  I can't live without it.

6) Living person you admire?
My Mammaw Donna.  :)
7) Greatest fear?
Dying alone.

8) Trait you deplore in yourself?
Pectus Excavatum.  My breastbone is concave.  Makes my cleavage look great but it's just annoying b/c I can't wear just any style of swimsuits.

9) Which talent would you most like to have?
I wish I had an athletic bone in my body. I even stunk at church basketball.

10) Greatest achievement?
I made it through college in 4 years.  I'm pretty proud.

Well...I'm tagging Emma at The Other Shore!  I'm a new follower to her blog and it is too cute! :)

Carolina in the morning!

My nursing portraits S U C K E D.  They were elementary-school-yearbook-picture-level bad.  I looked completely washed out and my face looks so fat.  I told my mom she could by ONE picture...but that was it.  It's torture enough knowing that this picture will be on my RN License.

SO...I asked my wonderful photographer friend if she'd do a shoot with me!

We met the beautiful USC horseshoe this morning.  The weather was BEAUTIFUL!  The horsehoe was bare (it was 9:30am).  The flowers were blooming and the way the light was coming in throught the trees, it was GORGEOUS! Maybe not as gorgeous as the picture above, but we tried!  And from the pictures that  I saw, they TURNED OUT WONDERFUL, and those aren't even editted yet!

Caroliniana Library Garden fountain [ Photo Credit: Arlene Marturano,

We did some at this fountain which is behind The South Caroliniana Library which happens to be the oldest free-standing college library in the nation.
Then I changed clothes and we walked to the SC State House and got some awesome shots on the steps and on the grounds!  I'm SO excited to see them!!  She took like 220 shots!!

I'll DEFINITELY post them when she's done editting them!!
YAY!

Nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina!

St. Pats Day: 1 Megan: 0

Megan did not eat her Lucky Charms today.

Usually St. Pattys Day is fun for me.  Wear a little too much green.  Eat some good-but-so-bad-for-you Irish food.  Pinch people.

Well, the little leprachaun had a mean plan up his sleeve for me today.

I had clinical today, so I was up at 5am.  THANK GOD I woke up at 5am.  I looked at my alarm clock and saw that had set it for 5:45am.  I leave my house at 6am.  I would have been screwed if I had woken up at 5:45.  It's days like this where I KNOW God made get up.

Anywho.

I drive 45minutes to clinical and it's pitch black the whole time.  Clinical was good. I was in triage all day long. Nothing too exciting.

Now to the craptastic part of my day.

I had to leave at 3:00 today so I could make it back for a test.  We had the option to take the test at 5, 6 or 7 tonight.  Again...Thank God!  I had been on the interstate for about 10 minutes and I hear the dreaded DING DING DING DING DING which was familar to because I heard it last week.  I look down at my tempature gauge and its completely into the emergent HOT red part.  Last weeks over heat resulted in a complete radiator overheat.

The great part about this...I'm alone, and I'm like 35 miles out away from my apartment, and I have a test that I must get to before 7!

So, I panic and call my Dad and he tells me to get off on the closest exit.  I managed to get to a gas station and let the radiator cool down.  15 minutes later and I'm on the road again!  But this time I'm going like 55 in a 70, with the windows down and the dry-hotter-than-normal-heat on ( to suck heat from the radiator to help cool it off)

My dad calls the Jeep dealership ( which is like over 1/2 a mile from  my apartment) and lets them know I'm on my way.  While he did that, I called every friend in my phone who lives in town.  Not much luck.  The only one that picked up was the friend who lives on the complete opposite side of town.  None of my roommates answered.  I cried a little.

I made it to the Jeep dealership where I had to leave poor hot flash Libby ( my jeep liberty).

Since I was close and brave, I decided to walk home.  In the south, you rarely see people walking along main roads unless you are downtown in a big city.  Plus, Columbia is kind creepy, so my walk home from the dealership was scary.  Nothing happened, but I stuck out like a sore thumb.  College girl, alone, bright red scrubs, bookbag and 5 miles away from any college or hospital.  I literally powerwalked my butt home.

I don't know why I freaked out so much.  It was a very humbling experience.  I was one of those people.  I try not to judge, but we all think things in our minds that we wouldn't dare say out loud.

Have you ever been karma smacked by your own actions before?  Like, have you ever judged someone, only to have it happen to you?

I know this wasn't a huge deal...or very interesting...but it made me think.

Oh..and I made it to the 6:00pm test.

I'm back!

Back from where you ask?
I'm back from spring break :(  But, only 52 days until Graduation!!!

I haven't blogged in a couple of days only because I didn't feel like it!

This weekend was great though!  My mom took me shopping at this "Spring Market" thing called the "JeWeL of the Carolinas" in my hometown that is put on by the Jr. Welware League.  Pretty much every cute girly boutique or baby boutique in the state has a booth and you can easily burn a big hole in your pocket there.

I lucked out, and mama isn't broke either.  AND my birthday IS next Wednesday (March 24!).

I fell in LOVE with this precious little wine holder.  I couldn't resist!

Dave said it looks like a kangaroo, but it's totally a dog.  Either way
Kangaroo or dog...it's still cute!!!

I've also been looking for a ring for a while now.  I found a black onyx sterling silver ring that fit perfectly!

Then, I found a necklace that I've been searching for since Christmas.  I found this necklace in Blowing Rock, NC but it was $50.  I found it at the JeWeL for only $20!  It's so neat because you can bend and twist it and make a new necklace or bracelet each time!  (Definitely could keep me entertained for hours).

Sunday, mom and I attacked Target. I was good though and only got a pair of sandals for the Carolina Cup that is next weekend and some stuff to take back to school.

NOW for the bad stuff.

My instructor has told me that my research paper that worked on for a week straight needs to be redone.  She said I rambled and just tried to fill pages.  That is complete and total BULL $#1+!  I worked my @$$ off on that paper.  I'm soooo pissed.   So if you don't hear from me in the next week, THIS is why.

If I were a {...}

I've seen this on several blogs.  I liked it.  Here it is.

If I was a month, I would be June.  Definitely hot, but not sweltering hot.

If I was a day of the week, I would be Friday.  TGIF!

If I was a time of day, I would 5 o clock.  'It's 5 o' clock somewhere"

If I was a planet, I would be the moon.  HAHA just kidding.  The moon isn't a planet.  Hmm..I'd be Pluto. Wait thats not a planet either.   I'd be earth!

If I was a sea animal, I would be a sea lion so I could do this all day.

A Sea Lion at the NC Zoo.  He looks so relaxed.

If I was a direction, I would be South!

If I was a piece of furniture, I would be an antique rocking chair.

If I was a liquid, I would be sweet tea!

If I was a gemstone, I would be a pearl ( Megan means pearl! How fitting!)

If I was a tree, I would be a Magnolia tree!

If I was a tool, I would be a multitool ( does this count?)

If I was a flower, I would be a lily!

If I was a kind of weather, I would be a summer storm with amazing beautiful lightning!

This photo was taken by me at about 11pm in Topsail Island, NC during the Summer of 2008.
Amazing lightning storm.  Perfect timing with the camera!

If I was a musical instrument, I would be a guitar.

If I was a color, I would be green

If I was an emotion, I would be passion.

If I was a fruit, I would be a peach!

If I was a sound, I would be laughter.

If I was an element, I would be Au- GOLD!

If I was a car, I would be a black 1956 Thunderbird convertible (I would totally time travel back to the 50's if I could!)

If I was a food, I would be a tomato.

If I was a place, I would be home (gotta steal that answer from a lot of y'all)

If I was a material, I would be cotton.

If I was a taste, I would be yummy.

If I was a scent, I would be the smell of a gardenia.

If I was an object, I would be a huge diamond ring, preferably this one

HINT HINT HINT

If I was a body part, I would be a hand.

If I was a facial expression, I would be a look of surprise
If I was a song, I would be this song.  River Flows in You by Yiruma

If I was a pair of shoes, I would be a pair of Rainbows.

Sooooo comfy!

Pass this along!

Look at my guns

Tuesday was so much fun.  I got to go with my Daddy to the shooting range, to shoot my new gun that he got me about a month ago.  It was very liberating and I think it made my Dad feel better about me going off and living on my own, possibly by myself in the next few months.

I've grown up not being afraid of guns.  I know its a touchy subject..because it is a lethal weapon.  I know guns kill people.  I know of people getting shot up in the streets, even in a small town. But, I also know about the protection and safety that comes with owning a gun.  My legs can only kick so hard. My fists can only punch so much.  I am a woman...and times are seriously changing.  I hope that I never have to use my gun to protect myself, but I also don't want to be a victim, or dead woman.

I currently own a Beretta shotgun which I use to shoot sporting clays.

I am also the proud owner of a PINK .38 Special Smith and Wesson.

They are beautys!

Hey...Don't think bad of me.  Remember, dainty prim and proper Bree Van DeKamp Hodges is a gun-toting woman on Desperate Housewives!

I think it is important for women to know how to handle a gun.  I think the worst thing is to be afraid of them.   If you're looking down the barrel..then yes...I'd be afraid too. But protecting yourself is something no woman should ever be afraid of.  It IS the 2nd amendment, and I don't think that any woman should be looked down upon because she owns a gun.

The world is becoming a scary place.  Women are vulnerable.  Women who aren't afraid to protect themselves aren't.

I found these quotes from notable men and women on guns.

"I declare to you that woman must not depend upon the protection of man, but must be taught to protect herself, and there I take my stand."
Susan B. Anthony

"There's no such thing as a good gun. There's no such thing as a bad gun. A gun in the hands of a bad man is a very dangerous thing. A gun in the hands of a good person is no danger to anyone except the bad guys."
Charlton Heston

"The most dangerous action a woman can take when faced with a criminal is to resist with her fists: That tends to annoy violent criminals, and the woman will very likely be seriously injured. But a woman who takes the advice of Handgun Control Inc. and passively submits is 2.5 times more likely to be injured than a woman who resists with a gun. So if you don't want to lie back and enjoy it, get a gun. Otherwise you may never become a mom."
Ann Coulter

"I'm secure enough in my self-esteem that I know I cannot handle a 150-pound guy coming at me, but I can handle a firearm to keep that man away from me."
Maria Heil, CNSNews.com reporter

"The fact that some anti-gun groups call for the wholesale confiscation and elimination of guns tells me one thing…they want to see me naked in my desperation, clutching a telephone, begging for the police to come before the intruder violates my home, my body, my child. To secure their peace of mind, they would leave me exposed to certain victimhood, rather than allowing me to empower myself and defend my God-given right to live and to protect my family."
Linda Prussen-Razzano, "So You Want To See Me Naked?"

I want to hear your opinion now!
